Dog Run Facilities

Security

During the assessment, you will observe the fencing and dividers between spaces. The design is effective in deterring climbers, diggers, or other types of escape. There are cameras monitoring daily activities.  We live on the premises as an extra sense of security.

Safety is a priority at Pet Holiday. We constantly monitor your pet throughout its stay with us.

Safety

The pet quarters are free of sharp objects, harmful chemicals, and objects that could be swallowed. Primary enclosures provide solid dividers between pets and the other pet guests, both for reasons of safety and so that your pet will be able to relax and sleep without feeling challenged pet neighbors. Common areas include barriers between runs high enough to prevent male dogs from urinating into adjacent runs. Floor surfaces offer sufficient traction even when wet. Power outlets are position several feet above ground level and are inaccessible to pets, and all power cords have a chew proof metal cover installed. Battery backup power is used to operate air conditioners, fans, pumps, filters, lighting and heaters in any instance where shore power is degraded. Areas are patrolled periodically for hazards. Firefighting equipment is installed.

All rooms at Pet Holiday are equipped with video and temperature monitors that allow us to keep your pet safe. The rooms also have speakers in which we occasionally use to play music to relax our guests.

Supervision

Pets are supervised frequently during the day by staff members who are trained to recognize signs of illness, distress, lethargy, severe intestinal disorders, urinary problems, loss of appetite, coughing, sneezing, or discharges from the eyes or nose. Pet Holiday staff members are trained to recognize and evaluate such signs and seek veterinary assistance when needed.

Sanitation

The facility is cleaned daily and is free of dirt, fecal accumulation, odors, and parasite infestation (flies, fleas, ticks). There is a strict schedule of disinfecting with Bayer’s livestock grade Virkon-S chemical cleaner to prevent intestinal diseases like canine parvovirus. This disease is spread when dogs come into contact with a contaminated surface. New vaccines are now available to combat this disease, but until the dog population develops immunity to the disease it will remain a potential problem.

Health Care

1. Water: Clean drinking water is regularly replenished and readily available to each pet.

2. Food: Feeding procedures vary according to individual pet’s needs. Refrigeration and freezer are available. Please bring enough of your pet's favorite food to supply the duration of stay. We maintain a stock of the most popular brands, like Orijen and Acana to serve at your request, for an additional fee.

3. Veterinary services: Using your pet’s veterinarian is preferred to maintain a continuity of care.  We will choose a veterinarian in the local area when needed. The customer is financially responsible for any veterinary care required for your pet during the stay.

4. Immunization requirements: Dogs should be immunized against rabies, distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, parvovirus (DHLPP), and Bordetella. Cats should be vaccinated against rabies, panleukopenia or distemper, feline rhinotracheitis, calici virus, and pneumonitis (FVRCPP).  When immunization records are not provided, then the pet owner is a guarantor to the fact.

5. Medication policies and procedures: Please provide medication and advise us in advance of the nature of the problem and the type and frequency of medication. Remember, it is essential that heartworm preventive medication be continued during boarding, if your dog is presently taking such medication.

6. Parasite control: We live in an area in which fleas and ticks are a problem.  Please utilize procedures for controlling these parasites (pre-entry examinations for boarders, sprays, dips, etc.).
